Bonding is also a less expensive and less invasive alternative to other cosmetic dental procedures such as veneers. The bonding process is relatively simple and can be completed in one visit to the dentist. First, the tooth surface is roughened so that the bonding material will adhere properly. Next, the dentist applies the bonding material to the tooth and molds it into the desired shape. Once the bond has hardened, it is then polished to match the surrounding teeth. Dental bonding can last for several years with proper care. For best results, patients should avoid eating hard foods or chewing on ice cubes, which can damage the bond.
